Desktop/On-Premise - Manually Updating Your eFileCabinet Server Follow
If you run into a situation where your eFileCabinet server does not appear to update correctly, you can try the following steps to manually update it to the latest version.
Step 1 - Uninstalling your eFileCabinet Server Services
Start by stopping your eFileCabinet server using the server service icon located in your windows system tray. Locate the blue eFileCabinet server service icon and right click it, selecting the ‘Stop’ option.
Once the server services are stopped, you can proceed with uninstalling it through the Windows Control panel. Start by clicking on the start menu icon at the bottom left of your screen and typing in ‘Control Panel’. Click on the Control Panel option when it appears.
Locate the Programs and Features option and select ‘Uninstall a Program’. In the window that follows, locate and uninstall the eFileCabinet Server.
This process will not affect any of the files you have stored in eFileCabinet. This only uninstalls the server application.
Step 2 - Renaming the Server Installation Location
Once the server is uninstalled, open the Windows File Explorer window (Shortcut: Windows Key + E) and head to the following location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\eFileCabinet 5\
In that location, right click the ‘Server’ folder that should be present and select the rename option. Rename it to ‘Server.old’.
Step 3 - Reinstalling the Server Services
Finally, head over to our software downloads page at http://www.efilecabinet.com/downloads to download the latest version of our server installer.
Since we’ll be reinstalling the server, you will download the file labeled en_e5Server.xx.x.xxx.exe -- where the Xs represent the current version number. As of writing this article, the current version number is 18.2.507
Once the download is complete, locate the installer in your Windows downloads folder and run it. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Once the installation is complete, the eFileCabinet Server Wizard may appear on your screen, it’s recommended that you log in to it with your Administrator password and simply click ‘Next’ through the steps. If it appears that the Server Wizard has become stuck at some point after the ‘Server Settings’ portion, that’s an indicator that it is running a database validation pass. It should continue on to the next portion of the Server Wizard after a few minutes.
No changes need to be made to the server settings outlined in your Server Settings or any portion of the Server Wizard, simply click ‘Next’ through it until it is completed. Start your server services and your server should be up to date.
If you need to confirm what version number your server is currently running, you can right click on the server service icon in your system tray and select ‘Server Info’, the server version should be listed at the top of the small server info window.
