EFC Desktop – Permissions (View, Open, Edit, Delete, Admin): What do they indicate? Follow
Permissions that are applied to a user for a cabinet, drawer, folder, etc. in the Desktop/On-Premise version of eFileCabinet are displayed as View, Open, Edit, Delete, and Admin (typically displayed briefly as the acronym VOEDA). Each permission serves a different purpose for a cabinet/drawer/folder/document. Below is a list of each permission and what it provides for a user:
View - The user can visibly see that a cabinet, drawer, folder, or document exists within eFileCabinet, but is unable to open documents or edit anything in regards to the cabinet, drawer, folder, or document levels.
Open - The user can see the cabinet/drawer/folder, and can open a document in a "read-only" mode, but is unable to edit the document or any folders, drawers, cabinets above it.
Edit - The user can edit the cabinet/drawer/folder/document that this permission has been applied to. When a document opens, for example, it will open with options to edit the document, instead of opening as a "read-only" version of the document in question. Users can also upload files with this permission.
Delete - The user can delete the content in question, as well as purge the content in question if they so desire.
Admin - The user can perform administrative actions on the cabinet/drawer/folder/document (altering name, retention, etc.)
NOTE: Some permissions require other permissions to be enabled in order for the permissions to be selected (For example, the Open permission requires the View permission to be enabled, and the Edit and Delete permissions require both View and Open permissions to be enabled. The Admin permissions require all the previous permissions to be enabled.)
